- Acuron is now registered for control of giant ragweed, yellow nutsedge and hairy galinsoga
- Larger Canada fleabane, up to 20 cm in size, is also included on the expanded label
Syngenta Canada announces label expansions for Acuron® corn herbicide, adding control of a broader range of yield-robbing weeds. Weed control is an integral component in a corn yield management system and helps improve a crop’s yield potential by keeping fields clean.
The Acuron label now includes control of:
- Giant ragweed
- Emerged yellow nutsedge
- Hairy galinsoga
- Larger Canada fleabane up to 20 cm in size
Acuron is the leading herbicide for Ontario corn growers. It combines four active ingredients – bicyclopyrone, S-metolachlor, mesotrione and atrazine – with three modes of action for performance against a broad spectrum of weeds.
In addition, Acuron delivers flexible, full-season control of difficult weeds. Its application window spans from pre-emergence to the six-leaf stage, offering growers more flexibility to time their application to target key driver weeds. Research by Peter Sikkema at the University of Guelph found Acuron delivered 96 percent control of waterhemp in trials over 6 years of research.
“The Acuron label continues to expand, offering growers one simple solution to manage a broader range of yield-robbing weeds,” says Jon Cressman, Product Lead for corn and soybean herbicides at Syngenta Canada. “These include Canada fleabane up to 20 cm in size, hairy galinsoga up to 10 cm and emerged yellow nutsedge up to 15 cm in size. The mix of active ingredients and modes of action in Acuron also provides built-in resistance management.”
Acuron is effective on Group 2-, triazine- and glyphosate-tolerant biotypes of broadleaf weeds. It can also be tank mixed with glyphosate (Group 9) to target a broader weed spectrum or add a fourth mode of action to the spray tank.
