Provincial crop insurer Agricorp has confirmed another strong year for Ontario corn and soybean producers in terms of yields.
Based on yields reported to Agricorp as of the end December, provincial production insurance participants averaged 204 bu/acre on corn and 53 bu on soybeans in 2024.
For corn, that represents a 2 bu/acre improvement from last year and easily tops the provincewide average of all producers of 177 bu/acre, as reported in December by Statistics Canada.
The 2024 soybean yield matched the previous year’s average for crop insurance participants and came in 5 bu above the StatsCan number for the entire province.
As can be seen from the maps below, yields for both corn and soybeans were particularly strong in Oxford County, as well as portions of Perth, Middlesex, and Chatham-Kent. On the other hand, yields along the north shore of Lake Ontario were more variable, along with portions of Lambton County.
