- The Pest Management Regulatory Agency reinstates livestock grain feeding use for Matador® 120EC and Voliam Xpress® insecticides.
- Important label update provides growers with renewed access to critical crop protection tools.
Syngenta Canada Inc. is pleased to announce that grain from crops treated with Matador® 120EC and Voliam Xpress® insecticides can now be fed to livestock, following a recent registration decision by the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA).
This decision reinstates a critical use for many growers who, since 2023, have been without these important tools to protect crop quality and yield from destructive insect pests. The reinstatement applies to grain and meal from treated canola, cereals, field corn, soybeans, and pulses.
"This update, based on rigorous scientific evidence, meets a crucial need for both growers and the broader agricultural industry," says Anna Shulkin, Head, Regulatory & Stewardship with Syngenta Canada. "These products remain valuable tools for Canadian agriculture when used responsibly and in accordance with label directions."
Syngenta collaborated with value chain partners to provide critically important real-use field data for grains as well as information for the processed commodities that supported the scientific review that led to this reinstatement.
"We're thrilled to bring these solutions back to Canadian growers," says Shaun Vey, Head, Sales, Crop Protection, Syngenta Canada, adding that growers will be able to purchase both Matador® 120EC and Voliam Xpress® for the 2025 growing season.
It's important to note that while grain feeding has been reinstated, grazing of treated crops or feeding other parts of treated crops remains prohibited. Additionally, there are other changes to the Matador® 120EC and Voliam Xpress® labels which include but are not limited to:
- Uses on apple and peach are cancelled.
- Updated requirements for personal protective equipment and cancellation of specific handheld application methods.
Growers are advised to review the updated product labels for Matador® 120EC and Voliam Xpress® for a complete list of requirements, precautions, and restrictions.
